County tries where state failed to ban funeral protests

November 9, 2010 By [email protected]

A new confrontation about free speech rights versus the right of privacy could be shaping up in St. Charles County where an effort has been started to ban protests near funerals.

The county council’s proposal is based on a law passed in Nebraska that has withstood a court challenge, which Missouri’s law has not.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the proposal is an effort to ban unpopular speech.
