A statewide poll finds the state auditor’s race is a dead heat but a lot of people don’t know who the candidates are. The survey conducted for the St. Louis Post Dispatch and KMOV-TV gives Republican challenger Tom Schweich 40% and incumbent Democrat Susan Montee 37%, which is within the margin of error. More than 20% of those surveyed don’t know who they’ll vote for yet.

The survey of 625 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Brad Coker, who conducted the poll for Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc., says Schweich might be benefitting from overall Republican strength this eleciton cycle.

“Barely half know Montee and only 44 percent know Schweich, so they’re certainly not voting on them because they know their names,” Coker tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The election is a week from tomorrow.
