Cape Girardeau using fed money to rebuild base

October 11, 2010 By admin

Cape Girardeau is using some of the federal stimulus to rebuild the city tax base.

The city is using $648,000 to buy foreclosed houses, to rehab them, and to sell them to people who are now renters.

The city housing department has bought nine foreclosed homes so far and hopes to have one ready to sell in December. Money from the sale of the homes will go back into the program to get more homes out of foreclosure and more to turn more renters into property tax payers.
