Federal prosecutors in St. Louis have charged a construction company owner with filing false income tax returns.

Prosecutors accuse Mack Edwards of filing the fales returns in 2007, based on false W-2 forms from the construction company, MD Construction. The indictment against Edwards accuses him of working with an income tax preparer, Hestine Mason, to falsify W-2 forms for taxpayers, instructing them to have Mason prepare their returns, obtain a refund and share part of the refund with him. Prosecutors say Edwards paid Mason $300 to $500  per return.

Mason pleaded guilty earlier this year and is serving a year in prison.
