Wainwright gets to 20 wins

September 24, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Allen Craig hit a three run homer in the first inning off Cubs starter Tom Gorzelanny and that was more than enough for Adam Wainwright to pick up his 20th win as the Cardinals beat the Cubs 7-1 at Wrigley Field Friday afternoon.

Wainwright went six innings allowing a run on six hits to go along with seven strike outs. Wainwright’s lone blemish was a solo homer in the second to Aramais Ramirez. This is the first time in his career that Wainwright has reached 20 wins and certainly has to be considered a front runner for the Cy Young with Roy Halladay of the Phillies, the other 20 game winner in the National League.

Matt Holliday had a hit to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.
