Now, the real work begins.
Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates of New York has been chosen to re-shape the grounds around the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Valkenburgh won a contest that began in December and boiled down to five finalists. The firm says it will spend the next three months refining its proposal, settling on a budget and helping find a way to pay for it. The plan it envisions features a riverside cobblestone plaza, an amphitheater and a bird sanctuary. The project could cost 300-Million dollars or more. No way to pay for it has been proposed.
