Student who was trying to stab the governor ‘mentally unstable’

September 17, 2010 By Jessica Machetta

The mother of a man accused of trying to kill a community college dean in Kansas City got a court order three years ago declaring her to be his guardian becuase he’s mentally unstable. The Springfield News-Leader says court records show Casey Brezik had been admitted to a drug treatment program in 2006 but violated standards of the program.

The man he’s accused of slashing, Albert Dimmit, remains hospitalized in good condition with a throat wound. The Kansas City Star says Brezik was planning to attack Governor Nixon, who was to speak at the campus that morning but had not yet arrived.
