Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb and Andrew counties be flown at half-staff on Saturday, Sept. 18, in honor of Dan De Kraai, who served as a police officer for the St. Joseph Police Department and previously as an officer for the Cameron Police Department.

Officer De Kraai, age 35, died in the line of duty on Sept. 15 while serving the citizens of St. Joseph. He also served on the Special Response Team, was a field training officer, served as a crime scene technician, and was an instructor at the Missouri Western Law Enforcement Academy.

Under Gov. Nixon’s order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb and Andrew counties will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, the day the funeral services for Officer De Kraai will take place.
