Reds get reinforcements from Royals

September 14, 2010 By Bill Pollock

As the Cincinnati Reds pushed their lead to seven games of the Cardinals in the NL Central, they called on the Royals to help with outfield help down the September stretch by trading for utility player Willie Bloomquist.

The Reds will send either cash or a player to be named later in return for Bloomquist who will help since the Reds have just two healthy outfielders on their roster. He should be in the lineup Tuesday night.

Bloomquist was batting .265 with three homers and 17 RBIs as he played left, center, third and second for the Royals. Since he’s joining the Reds after August 31st, he can’t be placed on their playoff roster should the Reds clinch.
