Former Missouri State right-handed pitcher Brett Sinkbeil became the 14th Bear called up the majors when the Florida Marlins added him to their roster Monday. Sinkbeil will be in uniform this evening as the Marlins play at Philadelphia.

The 19th overall pick in the 2006 draft, Sinkbeil has spent his entire minor league career in Florida’s system, including the past two seasons at Triple-A New Orleans, where he has a 5.71 ERA over 58 relief appearances in 2010. He has pitched 430 innings in 158 games at five minor league stops, compiling a 19-25 record and 4.83 ERA with 277 strikeouts.

At Missouri State, Sinkbeil went 19-14 as a three-year starter from 2004-06, fanning 256 hitters in 241 innings while holding the opposition to a .228 batting average. He ranks in MSU’s career top 10 in starts, innings, strikeouts and shutouts.
