Authorities asking public for help identifying remains

September 14, 2010 By Jessica Machetta

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are requesting assistance in the identification of remains found in Vernon

John Doe Reconstruction Image

County.  Located in 2000, southeast of Nevada, laboratory analysis has determined the remains to be those of a white male.  It is estimated the individual was between 26 and 36 years of age at the time of his death, and may have died as early as 1985 and as recently as 1997.

In an effort to identify the remains, a computer-generated image was produced by the Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) Laboratory at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

Anyone with information that may lead to identification of the remains is encouraged to call Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman at (417) 448-5555 or Corporal Brad Bearden with the Missouri State Highway Patrol at (417) 359-1502.
