The State Highway Patrol says a southeast Missouri farmer will not face criminal charges after a massive traffic crash near his burning field on Monday.
More than two-dozen people were sent to hospitals after the eighteen-vehicle crash blamed on dense smoke blowing across the highway from the field. Three of the injured people are in critical condition.
A Patrol spokesman says there was no criminal intent behind the fire; that the field accidentally caught fire while the farmer was burning trash.
