Cardinals lose ground in the Central

August 31, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Houston Astros starter J.A. Happ had his way with the Cardinals this time around after they beat him up pretty good in St. Louis, Happ pitched a complete game, two hit shutout as the Cardinals lost 3-0 to the Astros.

The Cardinals dropped six games behind Cincinnati who won in 10 innings against Milwaukee. Carlos Lee singled in the first Astros run in the first on a bloop hit down the right field line off Jake Westbrook. Then, former first round draft pick Brett Wallace, doubled in a run and scored in the seventh for insurance for Happ.

Wallace was selected 13th overall by the Cardinals back in 2008. Westbrook is now 1-3 since coming over in a trade from San Diego. The Cardinals are 1-5 in Westbrooks six starts.

The Cardinals are six games behind Cincinnati and remain three back in the Wild Card behind San Francisco and Philadelphia, but the Rockies are right on the Cards’ tail just 3.5 back.
