Democrats object to foundation ad campaign

August 28, 2010 By admin

Lawyers for the Democratic National Campaign Committee filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service that a conservative foundation has crossed over into politics in violation of its tax exempt status.

The complaint charges that the Americans for Prosperity Foundation has been running commercials in Missouri which are inherently politcal in nature. The compalint also sites ads in Kansas and Michigan. The Foundation has launched a $1.4 million ad campaign critical of Washington spending policies. The tax code under which the Foundation operates allows voter education and get-out-the-vote efforts, but prohibits ads for or against a politician.
