Southeast Mo. teen murder charges dropped

August 19, 2010 By Jessica Machetta

A Miner teen is free on bond after a death on Westview Street but she is no longer charged with murder. Brianna Branson, 17, originally faced second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, leaving the scene and minor in possession of alcohol after events that led to the death of 18-year-old Kendra Gray of Sikeston.

A 911 call came in at 6 a.m. July 24 to what was initially described as a “motor vehicle accident.” When emergency units arrived, Gray was found lying dead in front of a house. Police arrested Branson after a fight between her and Gray at an underage party over a boy. Branson posted a $2,500 cash bond Tuesday night. A grand jury Tuesday declined to return a murder charge, so it was dropped. She is now only charged with leaving the scene and tampering. A new court date before Judge David Dolan is pending.
