State Health Director promises more hospital infection data

August 18, 2010 By admin

State Health Director Margaret Donnelly says the state will begin publishing more data about Missouri hospital infection rates.

Donnelly says she made the decision after consulting with Governor Nixon. It comes in wake of a St. Louis Post-Dispatch story that revealed the state had been removing data from public view that was more than a year old. Health officials had claimed that the data was too expensive and sensitive to retain for more than 12 months. Consumer advocates have complained that the lack of data made it impossible to determine whether hospitals in the state were improving their ability to limit infections.
