Weeds becoming increasingly costly to KC

August 16, 2010 By admin

Kansas City is trying to collect on mowing fees from the property owners of vacant lots and has found an unlikely dead-beat.

The Community Development Corporation of Kansas City owes the city more than $42,000 for 160 properties it has failed to develop. The Corporation has spent millions of federal dollars over the years in an attempt to curb urban blight.

In all, property owners owe the city $1.26 million for mowing more than 3,700 private properties that failed to comply with city rules to cut grass and weeds.
