Cards fall to Cubs

August 14, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Chicago Cubs Derrek Lee is congratulated after hitting a solo home run in the third inning against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on August 14, 2010. UPI/Bill Greenblatt

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter gave up two home runs and Carlos Zambrano won for the Cubs…his first since his temper tantrum in June as the Cardinals lost 3-2 and fell back into a tie for first with Cincinnati.

Aramis Ramirez and Derek Lee homered off Carpenter who gave all three runs in his six innings of work. Carpenter falls to 13-4 on the year and admitted the 97 degree heat with 107 head index got to Carpenter. I was watching him get toweled off after the third inning and he looked spent.

This was the first time in the month of August the Cardinals were held to fewer than four runs. The Cardinals had just nine hits, and left nine men on base.
