The state sales tax weekend is underway. The state’s sales tax will not be collected on three categories of items often considered school supplies. Cities and Counties are not required to take part in the holiday More than 170 have opted out.

Buyers do not have to be buying things for school or for someone going to school to get the sales tax break.

The revenue department’s Ted Farnen says the holiday goes through Sunday. Missourians buying certain things will save at least 4,225 percent, the state sales tax. Clothing costing less than $100 per item, school supplies totaling no more than $50, and computers costing $3500 or less are exempt from the tax.
