The Kansas City Royals designated outfielder/DH Jose Guillen for assignment and selected the contract of pitcher Philip Humber from Omaha. The designation gives the Royals 10 days to trade, release or outright Guillen while opening a 40-man roster spot that is taken by the selection of Humber. The 34 year old Guillen was hitting .255 in 106 games for the Royals with 16 home runs and 62 RBI. He signed a three year deal prior to the 2008 season.
