Carnahan: Voter turnout at 22.9 percent

August 4, 2010 By Jessica Machetta

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan says the unofficial voter turnout for yesterday’s Primary Election was 22.9 percent.

“Despite extremely high temperatures across the state, approximately 938,782 of Missouri’s 4,104,834 registered voters went to the polls to cast a ballot in the primary for several statewide and local races,” she said.

A map showing turnout by county can be viewed on the Secretary of State’s Election Night Reporting website. The highest turnout reported in Missouri was in Dade County, with an estimated turnout of 45.2 percent. Dade County also had the highest turnout in the 2008 Primary Election.

The election results must be certified by the Office of the Secretary of State by August 24, 2010. A candidate who lost a race by less than one percent may request a recount within seven days of certification.
