Lawyers for a Wright City man waiting for execution say new evidence shows he did not have adequate legal representation when he was charged with killing his ex-girlfriend in 2003. Lawyers for Scott McLaughlin have argued in Clayton that DNA evidence idnicates a relative might also be connected to the killing. McLaughlin’s new attorneys say the DNA evidence might have been a mitigating factor in the trial that would have led to a lesser sentence.
