Alex Gordon went 2 for 3 and hit a second homer in three games since being recalled from AAA Omaha as the Kansas City Royals pulled off the sweep over the Baltimore Orioles with a 5-4 win Sunday at Kaufmann Stadium.

Bruce Chen picked up his first win since July 3rd thanks in part to a three run first inning by the Royals and rookie relief pitcher Kanekoa Texeira being able to work out of bases loaded jam in the sixth inning with nobody out.

KC got on the board in the first with an RBI double from Billy Butler, an RBI single from Wilson Betemit and a Jose Guillen ground out off O’s starter Kevin Millwood who gave up all five runs in 5.1 innings. Gordon hit an opposite field shot to lead off the fourth for his third homer of the season.

Royals notes:

Gil Meche decided against surgery on his shoulder which would have sidelined him through the 2011 season and could have possibly ended his career. Instead, he’ll begin rehabbing.

Joakim Soria picked up his 29th save in 31 tries and has now saved 22 games in a row.
