Zack Greinke was Cy Young Greinke Thursday afternoon at Kaufmann Stadium. He pitched eight innings pitched and allowed two runs while striking out nine in a 5-2 Royals win over the Blue Jays.

Toronto rallied in the ninth, putting runners on first and third, but Joakim Soria left the runners stranded cleaning up his own mess for his 26th save. Brayan Pena went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Jose Guillen had two RBIs.

Blue Jays starter Marc Rzepczynski was chased in the Royals’ three-run fifth inning, which featured Mike Aviles’ triple and RBI doubles by Billy Butler and Guillen. The third run came on Brayan Pena’s third hit, a single off reliever Casey Janssen.
