The All Star Break came to a close last night for the Kansas City Royals as they started a three game series at Kauffman Stadium against the Oakland Athletics.  The Royal bats and gloves seemed to still be resting as they lose to the A’s, 5-1.
Zack Greinke was trying to win his fifth straight start, but would give up five runs in the first three innings.  After giving up one run in the first, Greinke would commit an error in the second that would lead to another run scoring.

The big blow would come in the third.  Yuniesky Betencourt could not handle a double play throw from Greinke.  Greinke would then give up a walk to load the bases.  The A’s would then strike with two singles to score three runs.

The only run for the Royals would come off the bat of Jason Kendall in the first, who would single home Scott Podsednik who had doubled to lead off the inning.

Game two of the three game series will be this evening as Bruce Chen gets the start for Kansas City against Oakland’s Trevor Cahill

First pitch is 6:10.
