Royals pithcer Zack Greinke was scratched from Sunday’s game at Chicago because of soreness in his back right shoulder. He aggravated it during his last start against Seattle when he fielded a bunt and threw to first. He continued in that game and said afterwards he didn’t think it was anything serious.

Anthony Lerew started in place of Greinke and the Sox hit four home runs as the Royals lost 15-5. The Sox moved into first place after the win. Carlos Quentin who homered twice off Brian Bannister yesterday hit a grand slam and a solo homer. Andruw Jones hit his 400th career homer. It all unraveled for Lerew in the third inning after getting two outs.

Alex Rios hit his 15th homer on an 0-2 pitch. Then Quentin followed to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead. Mark Kotsay singled and A.J. Pierzynski walked, then Jones hit his homer. Then Dayan Viciedo chased Lerew with the fourth homer of the inning that tied a franchise record for the sixth time.

Greinke, is expected to start the first game back after the All-Star break against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

In 18 starts this season, Greinke is 5-8 with a 3.71 ERA.
