The Kansas City Royals would save the best for last, as down to their last strike, Mike Aviles would hit a game tying double to score Willie Bloomquist.  Bloomquist would then hit drive in the game winning run in the 10th, and the Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last night 2-1.

Bloomquist did not come into the game until the 9th, but entered as a pinch runner for Billy Butler, who had walked.  Bloomquist then proceeded to steal second to put himself into scoring position.

In the 10th, Bloomquist would hit a single into left field that would score Yuniesky Betencourt, who had led off the inning with a single.  Jokim Soria took the mound in the bottom half of the inning and set the Angels down 1-2-3 to get his 21st save of the season.

Up until the ninth, the game had been a pitchers’ duel between Kyle Davies and LA starter Brian Saunders.  Davies would give up just one run over his seven innings of work.

Game two is tonight as Bruce Chen gets the start for the Royals against the Angels Ervin Santana.  First pitch is 8:05.
