I’ll do this every once in awhile, throw a couple of short stories together. I believe this time, I’ve hit every major sport, a first in Missourinet sports history I think…this is almost podcast worthy? Well, maybe not.

First, I truly believe coaches deserve a second chance in their line of business and that is happening for former Missouri basketball coach Quin Snyder who was hired the Philadelphia 76ers as an assistant coach under new head coach Doug Collins.

The UMKC men’s basketball team is moving out of the 10,000 seat Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City and will play their home schedule on campus in the 1,700 seat Swinney Recreation Center. Among the Kangaroo highlights at Municipal Auditorium include a 41 point win over Kansas State back in 2003.

Alex Gordon and first baseman Kila Ka’aihue of the Omaha Royals, the AAA affiliate for Kansas City have been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. The pair will represent Omaha at the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 14 in Lehigh Valley, Pa. Gordon is hitting .327 since being sent down to the minors to learn left field and regain his hitting touch.

Defensive tackle Hollis Thomas, who played three games for the Rams last year and went to Sumner high school was suspended eight games by the NFL for violating substance abuse policies. Thomas is a free agent.

Yesterday was the first day of free agency in the NHL, former Blues goalie Chris Mason signed a two year deal with Atlanta. The Blues signed winger Alex Steen to a four year deal after he scored a career high 24 goals tying him for the team lead.

I know a lot of NASCAR fans here in Missouri will head over the Kansas Speedway in October to catch a race, that track has petitioned to add a second race earlier in the season, which could happen as early as 2011.

I even have a soccer story. The Kansas City Wizards say they have sold 40,000+ tickets for their exhibition match with Manchester United on July 25th.
