It was a run of bad streaks for the Kansas City Royals and their starting pitcher. The losing streak hit five games for the team after last nights 4-2 loss to the Washington Nationals.

For starter Anthony Lerew, he is looking for his first major win after seven starts. He took his first loss of the season going 5.1 innings while allowing all four runs on 10 hits including solo homers from Josh Willingham and Adam Dunn. Lerew had Tommy John surgery in 2007 adn is filling in for Luke Hochevar who has been resting a sore elbow.

Scott Podsednik drove in all three of the Royals’ runs and two of those came in the ninth inning, but Jason Kendall ended the game with the tying run on third. Washington closer Matt Capps worked out of a jam for his 22nd save in 26 chances.

On Wednesday, the Royals and Nationals wrap up their series with a start at 3:35 our time. Brian Bannister will face Stephen Strasburg who is making his fourth start of his career. He’s 2-0 with 32 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
