Graeme McDowell was the first European to win the U.S. Open golf tournament in 40 years and while Phil Mickleson and Tiger Woods couldn’t finish strong enough on Sunday, they still finished tied for fourth finishing with 287.

Manchester, MO. native Scott Langley was jsut one of two amateurs who made the cut and Langley finished with a 292.  The 21 year old opened with a 75, but fired on 69 on Friday to make the cut.  After struggling with a 77 on Saturday, Langley finished shooting par under cool and breezy conditions.

60 year old Kansas City native,  and winner of the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in 1982, Tom Watson struggled in his opening and final rounds, but his -1 under par performance on Friday and Saturday showed he still has good rounds of golf left in him.  However, sensing this may be his last U.S. Open, Watson, with his son Michael carrying his bag on Father’s Day approached the 18th green with tears in his eyes.  His shot out of the sand came a couple of feet from the cup, but he whizzed his putt four feet past the hole, then rimmed one in to cap of his final round 76 for a four day total of 295.

After his final round, Watson said, “The crowd was just wonderful, they gave me nice ovations at every hole.  There’s a lot of sadness today. It’s based on a lot of great memories that I’ve had here. It may very well be the last time I play Pebble in a championship of this caliber.”
