Larry Drew, a former Missouri Tiger who was a first round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons in 1980 and enjoyed a ten year career in the NBA as a player was named the new head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. This is Drew’s first head coaching job.

Drew ranks #15 in school history with 1,401 career points scored. At the time he finished playing at Missouri he was the school’s all-time assist leader with 433 and still ranks third on that list behind only Anthony Peeler (497) and Melvin Booker (488).

After helping Mizzou to the 1980 Big Eight title as a senior, Drew was a first round selection of the Detroit Pistons (#17 overall). He played 10 seasons in the NBA, including five years with the Kansas City/Sacramento Kings.
