With the big bats of the St. Louis Cardinals silent once again, Brendan Ryan would have the big blast of the night as his three run home run would be the difference in a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks in Arizona.  The win snapped the Redbirds four game losing streak.

Cardinals starter Jamie Garcia would get all the runs he would need in the second inning.  A double by Skip Schumaker and a single by Jadier Molina would give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

Garcia would then give the D-Backs zeros in the third and fourth.  His only rough inning was the fifth when Arizona was able to string together three hits to score one run.  Garcia would go five innings, giving up four hits and striking out four.  His ERA for the season is now 1.49.

Arizona would get one more run in the seventh, but Ryan Franklin would come into the game in the eighth to pick up his 11th save of the season.

The top of the Cardinal lineup continued its struggles as only Matt Holliday would have a hit.  Colby Rasmus, Ryan Ludwick and Albert Pujols would all go 0-4.

Before tonight’s game, the Cardinals may pick up one more starting pitcher as recently released Milwaukee Brewer Jeff Suppan is with the team.  He is scheduled to throw on the side today.  If the Cardinals feel Suppan is healthy, he will most likely be signed by the team.  Suppan could start for the Cardinals as soon as Tuesday.

Same two teams tonight as Cardinal rookie Adam Ottavino will try for his first Major League win.  The Diamondbacks will start former Cardinal Dan Haren

Game time is 7:10.
