5 Tigers, 3 Bears among 12 with MO. ties to MLB draft

Five Mizzou baseball players were selected on day two of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player’s Draft. Seniors Aaron Senne and Michael Liberto and juniors Brett Nicholas, Nick Tepesch and Tyler Clark went during rounds 2-30. Nicholas was selected in the sixth round by the Texas Rangers and Senne was the 10th-round pick of the Florida Marlins, while Tepesch went to the Rangers in the 14th round. Liberto was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 21st round and Clark was a 25th-round selection by the Detroit Tigers.

Three Missouri State pitchers were drafted. Sophomore left-hander Mike Kickham was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 6th round. Going in the 10th round to the Angels was junior pitcher Aaron Meade, and Pat Doyle went in the 24th round to Cincinnati.

High schoolers Charles Jones of Boonville was picked by the Giants, South Harrison pitcher Jordan Shippers went to Seattle and Lee’s Summit West pitcher Ryan Hafner was drafted by Pittsburgh, all in the middle rounds. Picked 823rd overall, sophomore right fielder Leslie Smith of St. Louis Community College in Meramac was picked by Detroit.

The draft will conclude with rounds 31-50 on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m.
