I’m not going to make excuses for Zack Greinke, but on a day when the strike zone was all over the place, the AL Cy Young Winner struggled most of his day giving up four runs in a 5-4 loss to the Angels Thursday afternoon in Kansas City.

Manager Ned Yost got tossed early in this game, after Jason Kendall was jawing with the home plate umpire. Greinke was down 1-0 when he gave up a two run homer to Torii Hunter in the fifth. Greinke gave up four runs on 10 hits while walking four. He also struck out six in his six innings.

The Royals cut the lead to the 4-2 after eight, but Los Angeles added an insurance run to go up 5-2. In the ninth, the Royals rallied again. Willie Bloomquist hit a two run homer off Angels’ closer Brian Fuentes. Mike Aviles drew a two out walk, but Scott Podsednik went down looking to end the game.

David DeJesus went 2 for 4 to cap off an incredible series going 8 for 15 in this series.
