Robinson Tejada worked out of a second and third, one out jam in the sixth inning and then shut down Los Angeles in the seventh with help from Blake Wood and Joakim Soria to give Brian Bannister his fourth straight win in a 6-3 final over the Angels.

Bannister is now 5-3 after allowing three runs in 5.1 innings, but it was Tejada who came up big. Just after the Royals had a big four-run fifth inning, the Angels threatened. The tying runs were at second and third, when Tejeda got Juan Rivera on a pop up to short center and then struck out Mike Napoli.

The Royals took the lead for good in the fifth. David DeJesus hit a two run triple. What a week for this guy. He just became a new father last week for the first time and has been on a tear at the plate, going 11 for his last 22. DeJesus is now hitting .294. Billy Butler drove in two more runs and Jose Guillen hit his 12th homer of the year off former Cardinal Joel Pineiro in the eighth inning.

Pineiro tossed all eight innings for the loss. Click to listen to post game comments from Bannister who agreed with manager Ned Yost’s decision to pull him from the game, plus DeJesus talks about his whirlwind week and Pineiro discusses his performance.
