Royals’ starter Luke Hochevar allowed five runs in seven innings as he allowed two homers as the L.A. Angels took care of K.C. 7-1 on Monday afternoon.
Ervin Santana, the Angels’ starter meanwhile continued to hold down the Royals bats. Santana scattered seven hits, fanned six and didn’t walk a batter. while earning big kudos from Royals manager Ned Yost.
The Royals only run came in the fifth on an Alberto Callaspo single, a stolen base and a Jason Kendall double to right-center, to cut the Angels lead to 4-1. Juan Rivera blasted a two-run homer to left in the second and Maicer Izturis hit his first of the season with a drive off the left-field foul pole in the third.
Up until then, Hochevar came in having allowed just two homers in 60 innings this season. That home run ratio of 0.30 per nine innings was second-best in the American League and sixth-best in the Majors.
