A big night for the Kansas City Royals at the plate as they pound out 20 hits on their way to a 12-5 win last night over the Boston Red Sox. The hit total was the highest for the Royals since 2008.
Boston would actually jump out to a 3-0 lead before the Royals would get two back in the third. David DeJesus would have an RBI double and Mitch Maier an RBI single to pull the Royals within one.
The Red Sox would come right back in their half of the inning and extend the lead to 5-2. Then, the Royals would explode in the fourth.
After RBI singles from Mike Aviles and David DeJesus, and a wild pitch that would score Aviles, Yuniesky Betancourt would step to the plate with the bases loaded. They would not be very long as Betancourt hit a grand slam, finishing off a seven run inning for the Royals.
Kyle Davies picked up his fourth win of the season. He would go five innings giving up all five Boston runs on seven hits. Davies would walk two and strike out five.
The Royals are now on a three game winning streak, and have won five of six on the road. They also have won nine of 14 games since Ned Yost took over as manager.
Game three of the four game set is set for this evening as Zack Greinke will once again try to get his second win of the season against Boston’s Clay Buchholz.
