Missouri State’s 2010 baseball season ended Thursday afternoon at the State Farm MVC Tournament with a 7-2 loss to Evansville at Eck Stadium in Wichita.

The Bears (21-34) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Luke Voit’s two-out, two-run homer before UE starter Corey Davisson settled in to retire 12 in a row and finish seven innings of three-hit ball. The only thing that could slow Davisson (9-1) was a nearly three-hour weather delay before the eighth inning began.

Evansville (32-26) chipped away at the lead, getting a two-out RBI single from Cody Fick in the third and a sac fly from Fick in the fifth that came within feet of clearing the left field fence for a grand slam.

Andy Pascoe’s RBI single in the sixth gave UE its first lead at 3-2 and the Aces tacked on four more in the seventh for a 7-2 advantage. Greg Wallace smacked a one-out triple to tie the MVC record with 13 on the year before Fick walked and Trentt Copeland reached on a squeeze attempt that scored Wallace. Nate Smith then roped a two-run double to left and scored on a wild pitch for the final margin.
