A hitter’s kind of day yesterday at Busch Stadium as the Los Angels Angels of Anaheim and the St. Louis Cardinals pound out 21 hits and score 17 runs. Despite a late rally by the Cardinals, the Angels were able to hang on for a 10-7 win.
Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse would only last into the fourth inning, giving up six runs on seven hits. After the game, Lohse would say that he, like last season, is experiencing pain in his forearm. Lohse said he felt it before the game, but became worse as the game went on.
Despite being down 8-2 in the seventh, the Cardinals would not go away quietly. St. Louis would pick up one run their half of the inning thanks to an RBI single by Jason LaRue.
In the bottom of the eighth, after the Angels tacked on two more runs, Matt Holliday would hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 10-4.
With their final at bat, the Redbirds would score three more runs off of RBI hits by Skip Schumaker and Felipe Lopez.
The final game of the set is this afternoon with Chris Carpenter getting the start against the Angels Jered Weaver.
First pitch is 1:15 this afternoon.
