On a hot day in St. Louis, nine innings was not enough for the Cardinals and the Angels as they would go to extra innings.  In the 10th, the Cardinals would finish their come from behind day with a 6-5 win.

The Angels would be in control of a 4-0 lead when the Cardinals would start their first comeback.  In the bottom of the fourth, Yadier Molina would hit a bases loaded single that would score Matt Holliday and Colby Rasmus.  Brendan Ryan would reach on an error that would score David Freese cutting the Los Angeles lead to 4-3.

After the Angels would get another run in the fifth, St. Louis would put their bats to work in the eighth.  After a double steal by Albert Pujols and Colby Rasmus, David Freese would drive them both in with an RBI single.  The Cardinals would have a chance to take the lead in the eighth with runners on second and third, but could not push anymore across.

The Cardinal bullpen would hold off the Angels over the next two innings.  In the bottom of the 10th, there would be drama.  St. Louis would load the bases as Matt Holliday walked, David Freese would get hit by a pitch and Yadier Molina would get a free pass.  This would bring up Felipe Lopez who would hit the game winning single.

St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter would struggle through six innings, giving up five runs on eight hits.  Ryan Franklin would throw two innings of relief to pick his third win of the season.

The Cardinals will now have a day off before heading to the west coast.  They will start a three game road series on Tuesday night in San Diego against the Padres.
