After a dismal start to the season, the Kansas City Royals now have their first three game winning streak.  The Royals opened interleague play with a 9-2 drubbing of the Colorado Rockies.

Kansas City would jump on the board first, as in the bottom of the fourth, Jose Guillen blasted a two run home run.  There would be no more scoring from either team until the seventh.

Jose Guillen was again behind a run for the Royals as he hit his second home run of the game.  This was a solo shot that put the Royals up 3-0.  Kansas City would get three more runs in the inning thanks to RBI singles from Jason Kendall, Mike Aviles and David DeJesus.  The Royals were now ahead to stay, 5-0.

After Colorado scored two runs in their half of the eighth, the Royals went right back to work.  Kansas City would get their first two runs due to passed balls by Rockies catcher Miguel Olivio.  These would score Willie Bloomquist and then Alberto Callaspo.  Scott Podsednik would drive in one more run with a sacrifice fly.

Brian Bannister would pick up his third win of the season after going seven and a third innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

The Royals have now won seven of nine games and are 6-2 since new manager Ned Yost took the helm.  Game two is this afternoon with Kyle Davies scheduled to get the start for Kansas City against Colorado’s Jeff Francis.

Game time is 3:10.
