The Columbia College Cougars softball team scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch and that was the only run that stuck in a 1-0 win over Dickinson State University in pool play of the NAIA national tournament in Decatur, AL.

Tori Long singled to start the game. Samantha Stringer hit a sacrifice bunt and Long advanced to second. A passed ball moved Long to third. After another walk and a hit by pitch, Long scored on a wild pitch from DST pitcher Erika Arvizo.

That one run was enough for Columbia pitcher Valerie Teter who pitched a complete game, four hit shutout while striking out 13 hitters.

Columbia will play game two against Belhaven at 12:30 on Friday.
