With a new manager on the bench, the Kansas City Royals started a three game series last night at the K against the Chicago White Sox. So far so good for Ned Yost as a five run seventh inning gives him and the Royals a 6-1 win.
It would be a pitcher’s duel for the first four innings between Gil Meche and St. Charles native Mark Buehrle. The White Sox would break through first in the fifth scoring one run. But that would be the only run Meche would give up over his six innings of work.
In the sixth, the Royals would tie the game thanks to a blast off the bat of Yuniesky Betancourt. The next inning, the KC bats would come to life.
Mitch Maier and Jason Kendall would each drive in two runs with singles. Another hit by Mike Aviles would knock in the fifth run of the inning for the Royals.
Dusty Hughes and Blake Wood would follow Meche. Hughes would pick up his first win in the Major Leagues.
Game two of the set is tonight as Luke Hochevar takes the mound for Kansas City. He will be going for his fourth win of the season. The White Sox will counter with Jake Peavy,
First pitch is set for 6:10.
