A new effort by the state to limit locations and business practices of adult businesses has made it through the legislature. But supporters know their efforts don’t completely solve the problems associated with that industry.

Senator Matt Bartle of Lee’s Summit has tried to control adult businesses throughout his legislative career. But courts have thrown out previous successful legislative efforts. Bartle says he’s not naive about adult businesses. He says his bill will not lessen the amount of pornography in Missouri. But he says those business locations and operations should be contained.

Bartle says every provision of his bill has passed court tests in one place or another. But he knows the adult entertainment industry will challenge this bill in court, too. One opponent says his bill is state meddling in local affairs, arguing local government have..or can get the power to do their own regulating.
