Joplin, MO. native Jamie McMurray just said this week it was time for him to start making a move in the Sprint Cup standings and he did that this week at the Southern 500 in Darlington, SC.

McMurray grabbed the pole and led several laps, but in the end lost out to Denny Hamlin who swept Darlington for the first time in 17 years. Hamlin beat out Kurt Busch and McMurray on Friday night in the Nationwide race.

McMurray gained three spots in the Chase standing moving up to 16th. It was a good night for Ganassi Racing as McMurray’s teammate Juan Pablo Montoya finished fifth.
