The Cardinals jumped on Pirates starter Paul Mahom erly and got six solid innings from Adam Wainwright in an 11-4 win on Sunday afternoon at PNC Park. St. Louis got their second win in a row, taking two of three from the Pirates to win the weekend series.

Wainwright allowed two runs on five hits. He had seven strikeouts while improving to 5-1 on the season. Maholm to the loss, going just 3 1/3 innings and gave up six runs (four earned runs) on six hits.

The Cardinals got going in the third inning. Tyler Greene doubled and Joe Mather, swinging a pink bat on Mother’s Day, ripped an RBI single. Maholm gave up a single to Ryan Ludwick and then walked David Freese and Yadier Molina to score Mather. Nick Stavinoha doubled into the right-field corner driving in two. When the smoke cleared St. Louis had batted around and had a 4-0 lead. Maholm threw 54 pitches in the inning.

Mather and Ludwick had two hits and Molina drove in three runs.
