Add this to the number of way the Kansas City Royals manage to lose a ballgame. Down 8-0, the Royals rallied to take the lead late only to see their most reliable arm in the bullpen give the game away as the Royals ended up losing to Texas last night 13-12.

I’ll just start from the beginning, which ended quickly for Royals starter Kyle Davies. He lasted just four innings and gave up nine runs. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then jumped on Davies for six in the third highlighted by a three run homer from Justin Smoak.

Down 8-0, Billy Butler hit a two run homer after Willie Bloomquist walk to make it 8-2. Butler would add a sac fly in the fifth to help cut the lead to 8-4 after five of Matt Harrison who left the game with a four run cushion. That was erased in the sixth, when Dustin Nipper gave up an RBI double to Jason Kendall and an RBI single to Mitch Maier. Then, Scott Podsednik hit a three run blast to tie the game at 9-9.

Texas broke the tie when Vlad Guerrero hit a two run homer off Josh Rupe to make it 11-9 Texas. In the top of the seventh, the Royals scored two more on a Alberto Callaspo homer, his fifth of the year. The Royals added an insurance run in the eighth to go up 12-11.

Manager Trey Hillman called on Joakim Soria after Robinson Tejada got the first two outs of the inning. Soria was greeted with back to back homers from Josh Hamilton and Guerrero and the lead and lose the game. Hillman talks about the two home runs given up by Soria, the comeback effort and Kyle Davies talks about his awful night.
