Jamie McMurray needs to speed things up now (PODCAST)

May 7, 2010 By Bill Pollock

Back in February, Jamie McMurray won the Daytona 500, he was on David Letterman and Regis and Kelly and was honored by Governor Jay Nixon, but since then finding wins or top finishes have been hard to come by for the Joplin, MO. native who sits 19th in the Sprint Cup Standings.

Since he’s with his new team, McMurray says he isn’t nervous or worried. He says he’s at the right place and while he doesn’t notice much difference in his attitude compared to last year when he was an after-thought with Roush-Fenway racing, friends tell him, he’s more relaxed.

After 10 races, McMurray is in 19th and he knows he needs to start making up ground right now if he has any shot at getting into the Top 12. This weekend, Jamie and NASCAR race at Darlington for the Southern 500 on a track that many in NASCAR circles would call the Wrigley Field or Lambeau Field of racing.

On today’s Pressbox Podcast, I share Jamie’s comments from a media conference he held earlier this week. Also, look for Jamie tonight on the Nationwide Tour when he races for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports. McMurray won at Darlington in 2004 and will make his 175th Nationwide start.
