The Cardinals dropped three out of four in Philadelphia, losing 7-2 this afternoon. Philadelphia jumped out quickly on starter Kyle Lohse.
Jayson Werth hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and two unearned runs came across in the second to give the Phillies an early 5-1 lead. The Cardinals had a chance to tie the score with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth, with Matt Holliday at the plate, but Phillies starter Roy Halladay struck him out, one of nine on the day for Halladay. Kyle Lohse lasted just four innings.
The Cardinals had some chances but couldn’t get to Halladay who picked up his sixth win of the season. The Cards will now fly across the state to open a weekend series with Pittsburgh.
