Cardinals third basemen David Freese was just named the NL Player of the Week for his performance in the last homestand. Well, Freese continued his hot swinging last night in the Cards’ 6-3 win over Philadelphia.

Freese hit a three run double with two outs in the seventh inning, part of a five run rally for St. Louis that broke a 1-1 tie. The inning started with Nick Stavinoha’s third home run off Phillies’ starter Joe Blanton. This turned out to be Stavinoha’s second game winning home run of the season and it came on his 28th birthday.

The Cardinals touched Blanton for four earned runs on ten hits. Colby Rasmus snapped an 0 for 12 slump by going 3 for 3 including an RBI sac fly in the second inning. Matt Holliday went 2 for 4 and scored twice.

Jaime Garcia got the win to move to 3-1 as he went six innings allowing just one run on three hits. The Phillies tied the game in the fifth after Jayson Werth doubled and scored on a sac fly.
